The Patek Philippe Advance Research Program is a representation of avante-garde watchmaking for the future as it’s goal is to ensure greater precision within mechanical watches by the application of silicon. Silicon is a metalloid which Patek Philippe refers to as Silivnar that can be used as a replacement of components for the traditional steel alloys in the movement. The advantageous of applying Silivnar in watchmaking when in comparison to the traditional steel alloys is that it is significantly harder, lighter and more corrosion resistant, furthermore it’s is exceptionally smooth therefore it does not require schedule lubricant, thus prolonging need of regular servicing.
