Apollo XIII was the third American-manned lunar-landing mission. Two days after launch, the spacecraft was crippled by an explosion, causing the Service Module portion of the Apollo Command/Service Module to lose its oxygen and electrical power. The crew used the Lunar Module as a ?lifeboat? in space. The command module systems remained functional, but were deactivated to preserve its capability to reenter Earth?s atmosphere. The crew, Captain Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and ?Jack? Swagert, endured difficult conditions but successfully returned to Earth. Ref. ST 345.0022 is the reference used for the steel watches within the ?Missions? collection as well as the steel version of the Mir watch.
