This Portuguese 3714 Chronograph has a self-winding movement and was introduced in 1997 following five years of research and development. The engine begins as the ultra durable and accurate Valjoux 7750 that's modified to accommodate IWC's specifications. The chronograph is accurate to a quarter of a second. It oscillates at 28,800 vibrations every hour, has 31 jewels and a 44-hour power reserve, sunken minutes and seconds indicators, a bidirectional Pellaton winding mechanism, and a balance with the ultra-precision Breguet balance spring. The stainless steel, three-piece case is 40.9mm in diameter and is water resistant to 3 atmospheres. For the stopwatch function, the top button facilitates the large seconds counter while the bottom button resets to zero. This model line was originally designed to honor the long tradition of precision nautical instruments of the Portuguese seafarers and explorers, but with a modern design and unceasingly innovative mechanics. IWC's first Portuguese timepiece had its debut in 1939, establishing this group of complex, large-case watches that have been owned by enthusiasts for over 70 years.
