The IWC Portugieser is one of the firm’s most celebrated and iconic
models with its heritage dating back to the late 1930’s during the rise
of the wristwatch. As a special request from two Portuguese businessmen
seeking for a timepiece with the precision of marine chronometers to be
worn on the wrist. The result was a large stainless steel watch equipped
with a pocket watch movement fitted with the calibre 74.
Since
its debut in 1998, the reference 3714 has become an instantaneously
recognizable icon and one of the best-selling model from the firm.
Inside beats an automatic movement Cal. 79240, at a frequency of 28800
bph (4 Hz) to provide a 44-hour power reserve when fully wound. The
present example with an attractive black dial is paired with two silver
vertical sub-register boosting with elegance and is no doubt the perfect
