This watch is part of the "Premier" edition and the lugs were inspired by the classical archway at the entrance of the Harry Winston Fifth Avenue salon. Zalium - a new material The introduction of Zalium for the Harry Winston rare timepieces collection is the idea of Ronald Winston an inventor in alloys. Ronald Winston’s field ranges from jewelry to aerospace. Fascinated by an alloy unknown outside the aerospace industry he named it Zalium for zirconium (Zr) its major component and the allium lily. Used in jet engines it is a material unlike any other and it had never been seen in watchmaking. It is much harder than titanium and extremely difficult to work. The case can’t be stamped out; it has to be machined from the ingot — very carefully because the dust is liable to catch fire. Crafting the case for this series of watches was in itself a major technological achievement.
