Chopard’s LUC XP Urushi Collection is a celebration of traditional horology and the ancestral art of Japanese lacquering. The present example by artist Kiichiro Masumura is made by the time honored techniques of Urushi and Maki-e where the Japanese lacquer is applied in layers so that light reflects and refracts. Maki-e technique involves sprinkling the dial with metal dust, in this case gold, which helps to accentuate the contours.
